                 Who is K.N. Dhakal (Prateek)?

K.N. Dhakal (26 May 1960), who also served as a Liaison Officer of HMG/Nepal for the Japanese and Belgian trekking teams, is a translator, writer, editor, singer and poet. Khadananda Dhakal (nom de plume Prateek Dhakal) is a well established name among Nepalese readers. Some of his poem have already been translated into English and Japanese languages. In 1989, he was honoured by His Majesty the King of Nepal in recognition of his inordinate achievement in the field of Nepalese Poetry.

Dhakal was a Gold Medal recipient at the 'International Youth Speech Festival' organized to mark the 'International Youth Year - 1985' in Japan. In 1998, he won the cash prize in a global poetry contest organized by by 'International Nepali Literary Society' USA. He has received several literary awarded at home also. 

Recently, one of his poems selected by 'The International Library of Poetry' is published in the edition entitled 'Under a Quick Silver Moon.' Similarly, 'The Millennium Poets' an anthology of poems and 'The Sound of Poetry' a CD recording from the USA also contain his poems.

A Prominent personality in the field of poetry, short story, travelogue and essay, Dhakal is an eminent critique too. A strong advocate of humanity, Dhakal has vividly demystified the geographical, cultural, lingual and social aspects of two Himalayan districts, namely DOLPA and MUSTANG using his exclusive expressive style in this travelogue, BEYOND THE HIMALAYAS.
